Amateur observation of a brown dwarf

The news notes section of the January 2006 issue of Sky and Telescope (page 24) reports on Dave Tosteson's visual detection of brown dwarf LSR 0602+3910, an apparent first for amateur observation. Dave contributed the largest set of visual observations contained in the Arp book.

Alex, Thanks for your comments on the visual sighting of the Brown Dwarf. One correction should be made: it was the January of 2007, not 2006, issue of Sky and Telescope. Also, congratulations to you and Jeff on the Arp Book. It is a fabulous collection for the amateur interested in Dr. Arp's history and for exploring the galaxies either visually or by imaging.

Got it, Dave, thanks. This brings up a funny point. Did anyone notice that the February 2007 issue of S&T was labeled as November 2006 on the cover? Now that's a goof!
